About Kelly
I am a graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a BSEd in English. I became a Certified Personal Trainer in 2011 after 10 years of teaching at the high school level as a way to create a flexible schedule to be home with my 3 girls. It was after seeing amazing personal results through CrossFit that I was inspired to obtain my certification and become a CrossFit Level One coach. My energy, combined with my love of fitness, sense of humor, and skill of teaching, create an unparalleled experience for the members at Brandywine CrossFit. In December of 2016 I obtained my CrossFit Level Two Certification and am looking forward to continue learning new coaching methods.
I have always been more spiritual than religious. I had always loved Yoga and wanted to become a certified Yoga teacher, and I am on that journey now. Yoga and CrossFit are the perfect Yin and Yang, so we've incorporated Revolution Yoga and Wellness into our metaphorical and literal "Box" this summer and I am looking forward to seeing how our members can improve their flexibility as well as their Bad Ass-ness!
I am also an avid tennis player and dedicated team player.
Turning Point
In high school, I suffered a back injury from stunting which forced me to see things in a different way. From then on, fitness took on a whole different meaning and it took a long time to fight back to get into the mindset that back surgery isn't the end. I didn't think I would be able to run again, let alone left heavy weights.
In December of 2015, while attending my middle daughter's gymnastics meet, I went to scratch my ear and realized couldn't feel the right side of my face or my right arm. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, both chronic and acute, in my Central Nervous System. This summer I realized that I am still battling this disease when new and terrifying symptoms arose, and with the help of a spectacular integrative doctor, we are learning my environmental triggers as well as how to best fuel my body so I don't feed the disease.
I've learned that what "I have" doesn't define me, who "I am" does. No matter what else is going on with my body, there's always a way to stay active and healthy.
Motivation & Passion
My passion for coaching comes from the sheer fact I love seeing people see for themselves that they CAN do it. My sense of humor carries though when I coach and teach. Fitness is journey, not a destination. You need to have some fun and inspiration mixed in, or it just feels like a job. If you don't love what you do, don't do it. My dad always said, "You only go around in this world one time. If you do it right, once is enough." Damn right!
